Ataturk's Moseleum /Anitkabir Ankara-Turkey

Ankara, the Capital City

Ankara, the heart of the National War of Independence, has been planned in a modern manner and developed in a short period of time.
In the research made related to the history of Ankara,
the remains of the Hittites and Phrygians were encountered in the surroundings of Ankara,
however, no settlement place was revealed inside the city.
Ankara, with its known history, was first founded by the Celts.
In the third century B.C., the Celts, who came from Europe via the Balkans and the Straits up to Central Anatolia,
founded the Galatian State, with Ankara as their first known capital city.
The city later experienced the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman Periods.

The most interesting structure in Ankara is the Anitkabir (Mausoleum), constructed for Ataturk.
The construction of the monument, on Rasattepe, started in 1944 and finished in 1953.
In the same year, Ataturk was moved from his temporary grave at the Ethnographic Museum with great cere- mony to Anitkabir, his eternal place of rest.

TAJ MAHAL

The Taj Mahal (Hindi: ताज महल, Persian & Urdu: تاج محل) is a monument located in Agra in India,
constructed between 1631 and 1654 by a workforce of more than twenty thousand.
The Muslim Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned its construction as a mausoleum for his favorite wife,
Arjumand Bano Begum, who is better known as Mumtaz Mahal.

The Taj Mahal (sometimes called "the Taj") is generally considered the finest example of Mughal architecture,
a style that combines elements of Indian and Persian architectures.
The Taj Mahal has achieved special note because of the romance of its inspiration.
While the white domed marblemausoleum is the most familiar part of the monument,
the Taj Mahal is actually a complex of elements.

VADUZ

Vaduz is the capital of the Principality of Liechtenstein.
It is the seat of the national parliament.
The town has about 5,000 inhabitants, most of whom are Roman Catholic, and is located along the Rhine.
It is thought to have been founded in the 13th century by the Counts of Werdenberg.
There is mention of the castle in 1322; the castle was later sacked by the Swiss in 1499.

Malé

Malé, population 81,647 (2004), is the capital of the Republic of Maldives.
The city is located on Malé Island in the Kaafu Atoll.
Although Malé is geographically located in Kaafu Atoll, administratively it is not considered part of it.
A commercial harbour is located in the Island. It is the heart of all commercial activities in the country.
Many government buildings and agencies are located on the waterfront.
Malé International Airport is on adjacent Hulhule Island which includes a seaplane base for internal transporation.
Several land reclamation projects have expanded the harbour.

Paris view from Galerie des Chimères of Notre-Dame de Paris

View west over the city of Paris from the Galerie des Chimères of Notre-Dame de Paris.
One of the famous gargoyles (chimères) of the cathedral can be seen at the left of the photograph.
The River Seine is visible at the bottom of the photograph.
The nearer bridge is the Petit Pont, and the further is the Pont St Michel.
In the distance can be seen the distinctive shape of the Eiffel Tower,
to the left of which can be seen the golden dome of the Dôme church, within the Hôtel des Invalides.

Tibetan Prayer Flag

Prayer flag above the monastery (Gompa) of Tanze, in the Kurgiakh valley.
The wind is believed to propagate the prayers printed on tissue.

Tibetan prayer flags are colorful panels or rectangles of colourful cloth strung along mountain ridges and peaks in the Himalayas to bless the surrounding countryside.
Unknown in other branches of Buddhism,
prayer flags are believed to have originated with the original Bön religion which pre-dated Buddhism in Tibet.

Panthéon in Paris

The Panthéon on the top of is a building in the Latin Quarter in Paris, France.
It was originally built as a church dedicated to St.
Genevieve, but after many vicissitudes now combines liturgical functions with its role as a famous burial place.
It is an early example of Neoclassicism, with a façade modelled on the Pantheon in Rome,
surmounted by a small dome that owes some of its character to Bramante's "Tempietto".
Located in the Ve arrondissementMontagne Sainte-Geneviève, the Panthéon looks out over all of Paris.

Japanese aircraft carrier Zuikaku

Crewmembers salute as the Japanese Naval Ensign is lowered on the sinking Japanese aircraft carrier Zuikaku,
in the battle off Cape Engaño, October 25, 1944. Half of this crew drowned as the ship sank.
The view looks aft from the rear of the carrier's island,
with radio antenna masts folded horizontal on her starboard side. Note her sharp list to port.
A 25mm single anti-aircraft machine gun is mounted on the flight deck, at the lower right.

Circle of Lebanon, Highgate Cemetery, London

Highgate Cemetery is a famous cemetery located in Highgate, London, England.
The cemetery in its original form (the older, Western part) was opened in 1839,
part of an initiative to provide seven large, modern cemeteries (known as the "Magnificent Seven") in a ring round the outside of London.
The inner-city cemeteries, mostly the graveyards attached to individual churches,
had long been unable to cope with the number of burials and were seen as a hazard to health and an undignified way to treat the dead.
Highgate, like the others, soon became a fashionable place for burials and was much admired and visited.
The Victorian attitude to death and its presentation led to the creation of a wealth of Gothic tombs and buildings.
It occupies a spectacular south-facing hillside site slightly downhill from the top of the hill of Highgate itself,
next to Waterlow Park, both of which were part of the former Dartmouth Park which covered the area.
In 1854, the area to the east of the original area across Swains Lane was purchased to form the eastern part of the cemetery.
This part is still used today for burials, as is the Western part.
The cemetery's grounds are full of old-growth trees,
shrubbery and wildflowers that are a haven for birds and small animals like foxes.
The Egyptian Avenue and the Circle of Lebanon (topped by a huge Cedar of Lebanon) feature tombs,
vaults and winding paths dug into hillsides.
For its protection, the oldest section,
which holds an impressive collection of Victorian mausoleums and gravestones,
plus elaborately carved tombs, allows admission only in tour groups.
The newer section, which contains a mix of Victorian and modern statuary, can be toured unescorted.
